Two Must-Haves for Your Purse or Bag

Posted on 18. Feb, 2010 by Melissa in Girly, Miscellaneous

I’ve read a few different magazine pieces in which celebrities confess the items that they must have in their purse at all times.

Those articles are usually good for a laugh, since most of us mere mortals can’t even afford the brands of stuff they claim they can’t live without, but I started thinking about the things that I always carry around in my purse.

Short is Sweet

I’ve had short hair for eleven years now and I’ll never try to grow it out. I don’t own a hairbrush or a blow dryer but I can still manage to play around with it and have fun. I like to change the color(s) pretty regularly and if my bangs get long enough before a trim, I can pull them to the side with a barrette.

People stop me in public to ask who does my hair, what the name of my color is, or just to say “I can’t believe you’re so brave!” (As a side note, I also seem to get stared at by women who look like lesbians as if I belong to some weird short-hair cult, but that’s beside the point.)

One of my friends decided that it was time for a change and she — for lack of a better term — pulled a Britney Spears for New Year’s 2010. Now that it’s February, her hair is starting to grow in and she isn’t sure what to do with it. Obviously I have a lot more hair than she does at this point, but I figured that I could share a couple tips with her or anyone else that wants them. I’m not a hair stylist, but I like to goof around with products so here are some of my opinions.

The Mom of the Year Award Goes to …

Posted on 04. Feb, 2010 by Melissa in Family, Miscellaneous

Yesterday afternoon we had to stop at the bank and run some errands, so we figured that we’d grab some lunch while we were out.

We stopped at a Hess station to fill up the gas tank and grab some Blimpie sandwiches. I was getting Hannah out of her car seat when I saw a woman walk up to the car parked next to ours. She got in for a minute and got right back out and went inside the Hess again.

Bobby (you remember him, right? The hubby … AKA Mr. Rhone) said, “She left her kid in the car!” and I looked over.

Yep, sure enough — there was a little boy in the backseat! He was strapped into a car seat and she had the driver’s window cracked down a little bit, but this kid was two or MAYBE two and a half years old.

We went inside to buy our Blimpies, and I saw SuperMom up there at the lottery counter. She got a few tickets and went back outside, then went BACK IN AGAIN.

This woman was going inside to buy lottery tickets, going outside and scratching them off in the car, and going back inside to turn in the winners.

WHILE HER CHILD WAS LEFT ALONE IN THE CAR!

What a loser / moron / idiot / add your own derogatory comment here.
