Epilepsy Awareness Month: November 2011

Posted on 10. Oct, 2011 by Melissa in Epilepsy

It seems like summer just began, and here it is almost Halloween! It’s also creeping up on November, which is Epiepsy Awareness Month. This year, the Epilepsy Foundation is urging everyone to Get Seizure Smart. There’s an awesome quiz on their website that will help everyone learn a little more about this eerily-common neurological condition.

Next week I’m participating in a webinar / video conference / blogger summit regarding health issues, particularly epilepsy. I’ll be sure to post all of the details once I receive them. Until then …

Epilepsy Awareness Month November 2010

Posted on 10. Nov, 2010 by Melissa in Epilepsy

Epilepsy and seizures affect nearly 3 million Americans so it makes perfect sense that November should be Epilepsy Awareness Month. It’s the perfect time to educate yourself about epilepsy and seizures and it really is okay to Talk About It!

You also need to visit my friend Kirsten @cheekymonkey8 ‘s totally nifty blog www.gone-bananas.com where you can take a peek at my guest post about Learning to Live with Epilepsy.

This year’s Epilepsy Awareness Month theme is “Get seizure smart!” so I’d also like to share the following graphic, courtesy of the Epilepsy Foundation. (Clicking on the picture allows you to enlarge it.)

ShortHairDiva Interview: Women Succeeding with Epilepsy

Posted on 21. Jul, 2010 by Melissa in Epilepsy

This afternoon I was fortunate enough to speak with Dr. Blanca Vazquez, director of Clinical Trials and Outpatient Services at the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at New York University’s Langone Medical Center in New York City, and Beth Battaglino Cahill, the executive director of HealthyWomen, an independent, non-profit health information source for women.

Dr. Vazquez and Ms. Battaglino Cahill joined forces thanks to Women Succeeding with Epilepsy, a collaboration between EpilepsyAdvocate and HealthyWomen. I’m pleased to have had the opportunity to speak with both of them today, and you can watch them answer my questions in the video below.
