I Cut Off My Hair!

Posted on 06. Apr, 2011 by in Short Hair

Last year I attended the National Walk for Epilepsy in Washington, DC and had my hair dyed purple for epilepsy awareness. I also decided to let my short hair grow out a bit for the first time in ages.

I chopped off all my hair during college (okay, technically, a stylist chopped off all my hair because I’m not that brave or that dumb–there’s a reason they have to go to school to learn how to cut hair. Always remember that when you’re tempted to grab the scissors, people!) Although it’s been black, brown, blonde, red, orange and purple over the years, it’s been short ever since. Yeah, I know, admitting this publicly makes me sound like a woman on the verge of a mid-life crisis, but I figured it was time for a change. Change is good and besides, I don’t think I’m old enough to have a mid-life crisis.

From March 2010 to March 2011, I accumulated quite a bit of hair, as you can see in the pictures below. I still had it cut periodically (I can’t even fathom how some people go for years without getting haircuts) but it was definitely a big change for me.

I purchased a brush for the first time since who-knows-when and I got a hairdryer for Christmas. I was even able to use barrettes! Me, barrettes! Woo hoo! None of these things are a big deal for most of you chicks, but when you’re used to having hair that’s half an inch long, it’s definitely a milestone. Despite my shiny new hairdryer and cute little barrettes, though, I also had to deal with hair falling into my face throughout the day and annoying the heck out of me.

This past weekend I decided enough was enough and made an appointment at the salon …

I felt a little bit bald at first and my own reflection looked kinda strange in the mirror, but it’s been a couple days and I’m already used to it. I feel like myself again!

I usually keep my hair buzz cut. I grew it out this summer specifically so I could get a Mohawk, which turned out to be a fun experience.

Side note: a Mohawk looks pretty cool along with a kilt and other authentic Scottish garb…very warrior-like. 😀

I’ve got to admit that a mohawk / kilt combo is something I never really thought about until reading your comment!
