2010 National Walk for Epilepsy

Saturday March 27th marked the 4th annual National Walk for Epilepsy in Washington, DC. Yeah, I know I’m late writing about it, but better late than never, right? By the way, I’m proud to announce that so far this year I have raised $380 for epilepsy awareness! I think that’s a great donation to the Epilepsy Foundation!

You probably know that breast cancer awareness is displayed with pink ribbons, but purple is the color for epilepsy awareness. I decided to have a chunk of my hair dyed purple for the Walk this year. I found a great new hairstylist in the area thanks to one of my new Twitter-buddies so I was able to get some cool purple hair. (Just so you know, calling around and asking salons if they will dye your hair purple gets you more nays than yays.) I’ve definitely gotten a few strange looks out in public, but I absolutely love it and it was a hit at the Walk because everyone knew what it was for.

Before we went to DC I was wondering if I’d see Greg Grunberg–  star of NBC’s Heroes, epilepsy advocate, and chairperson of this year’s Walk– because last year I met him and had my photo taken with him.

Lo and behold, just as I was saying to my husband “I wonder if I’ll see Greg!” my jaw dropped in excitement because I looked up and noticed that he was walking about twenty feet in front of me. My love of celebrities and starstruck-ness was kicking in and I wanted to run up with the camera then and there, but at that exact moment our17-month old daughter decided that she did not want to sit in her stroller or walk for one minute longer. We had to cut out a bit early and visit the Air and Space Museum instead, so I wasn’t able to go chat it up with Greg.

It’s not the end of the world, especially because I was thrilled to see him in person! I’m so glad we went to the Walk for the 2nd year in a row and raised money for a condition that I live with every day.

Thanks! I didn’t get as many pictures as I did in 2009, but at least I got a few! Where did you guys walk virtually? Just in your neighborhood or was something organized in Spring Hill?
