My Greg Grunberg Interview is Done!

Posted on 30. Apr, 2010 by Melissa in Epilepsy

My first interview is complete!

This afternoon, I  had the chance to speak with Greg Grunberg of NBC’s Heroes, and Dr. Brien Smith, Medical Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan . While we were on the telephone, I was able to see them live in the studio on my computer.

I am extremely honored that Greg and Dr. Smith both took the time to speak with me, but I’d also like to say a very special thank you to Epilepsy Advocate, a community of people whose lives are directly impacted by epilepsy, including those with epilepsy, their caregivers, friends and family.  Beginning in 2006 with 18 Advocates, the Epilepsy Advocate community has grown to over 60.  Nearly 7,000 people have participated in more than 160 events across the U.S. and Epilepsy Advocate magazine is widely read in the epilepsy community. My interview with Greg Grunberg and Dr. Smith was made possible thanks to Epilepsy Advocate!

Here’s the video from my interview!

Greg Grunberg Epilepsy Awareness Interview Tomorrow!

Posted on 29. Apr, 2010 by Melissa in Epilepsy

Yesterday was extremely exciting because I received an email asking if I was interested in participating in a blogger media tour to interview Greg Grunberg, star of NBC’s “Heroes” and father of a son with epilepsy.

As you know, I totally dig Greg, especially since he is an epilepsy advocate that has been chairperson of the National Walk for Epilepsy in Washington, DC each time I have participated. I even got my photo taken with him in 2009.

Here I am with Greg and Bobby! 2009

Once the initial shock of this invitation wore off and I picked my jaw up off the floor, I made the necessary phone calls and got all the details to participate.

So anyway, tomorrow I will get to speak with Greg and Dr. Brien Smith on the telephone for 10 minutes. I will be able to watch them live in a studio while we are on the phone, and I will be able to post that video here on ShortHairDiva for you all to see!

P.S. Another bonus- was the pilot of Oceanic 815 on Lost for crying out loud, and he plays the drums in the Band from TV! Eeeeek!

2010 National Walk for Epilepsy

Posted on 10. Apr, 2010 by Melissa in Epilepsy, Family, Girly

Saturday March 27th marked the 4th annual National Walk for Epilepsy in Washington, DC. Yeah, I know I’m late writing about it, but better late than never, right? By the way, I’m proud to announce that so far this year I have raised $380 for epilepsy awareness! I think that’s a great donation to the Epilepsy Foundation!

You probably know that breast cancer awareness is displayed with pink ribbons, but purple is the color for epilepsy awareness. I decided to have a chunk of my hair dyed purple for the Walk this year. I found a great new hairstylist in the area thanks to one of my new Twitter-buddies so I was able to get some cool purple hair. (Just so you know, calling around and asking salons if they will dye your hair purple gets you more nays than yays.) I’ve definitely gotten a few strange looks out in public, but I absolutely love it and it was a hit at the Walk because everyone knew what it was for.
